Aikido is a Japanese martial art that uses dynamic circular and smooth motions to turn an opponent's own momentum against him by redirecting the momentum into a throw or joint lock. Aikido is designed to subdue an opponent gently, without causing the attacker harm. However it can also be used to force a submission, hold an opponent in place, or break bones.  Aikido training allows a user a number of options to deal with situations of varying degrees of danger.  Aikido is an excellent compliment to Karate training.
